The man was on his knees facing a black sarcofagus.
He had spent his last nights praying his mentor would give him wise advice.
But only silence surrounded him.
-So be it. It has to come to an end eventually. One of us will have to die for this circle of madness to be completed.
By saying this he rose and grabbed his sword. His fire proof armor was already on him.
Then he gave himself to a weird wild dance. It was an ancient tradition of his clan for warriors before they would go to battle. Legend has it that it increased their bravery and filled them with determination.
-Nansy dies tonight he kept repeating to himself like he needed to believe it.
Nansy was out for her night's hunt. She always enjoyed a good hunt, especially if the victim would put up a bit of a fight.
She had already been searching for half an hour when she spotted a nice target.
An athletic man who had just entered a small, dark road.
She smiled and quickly followed behind him.
Faster than the speed a human eye could see, she charged at the man, claws and teeth out.
Just a second before her teeth would sink into the man's throat she realised about the trap but it was too late. Her supernatural speed couldn't be halted that easily.
Then she bit on nothing but air and the man had suddenly dissappeared.
-A mind trick! she growled while falling to the ground.
The moment she touched the ground she stood back on her feet but that was all the time Narssel needed.
He was already standing in front of her with his runed long sword in hand.
Nansy was fast but she knew her creator was faster and given he had a sword in his hand he had an advantage she couldn't counter easily. She opted to speak first.
-What an honor? I see you are still good in this game, my love.
-You betrayed our truce. It's time for judgement Nansy!
-So after so many years you have come to kill me, AGAIN!
-I have no choice. This cursed circle should have ended with me and now there is one more of my blood out there.
-Ah, is that what this is? Well, you should learn that your creator asked me to do it. How dare you judge his decisions?
-I do not care about my creator, you should know that by now. I answer only to the first father and God, no one else.
-Yeah, the noble path of the paladin, the righteous judge ever to walk alone seeking justice.
-Don't mock me Nansy. You failed me once before and you have failed me again. You have forced my hand.
-So mr.Judge, would you hit an unarmed woman?
-I don't want to but i have to, unless...
-Unless?
-Unless you destroy your creation. Then i could forgive your treason.
-Do paladins also forgive?
-No paladins don't forgive sinners, but husbands do!
Nansy froze for a second. Could he still feel something about her after so many years?
-You were the one that told me i was dead to you. Have you forgotten?
-Nansy if you cleanse the sin you have committed I will put my sword down and we may fight another day.
-I can't!
-What do you mean? I don't care about what my creator has ordered...
-It's not that. The young one is out of my reach now.
-What do you mean? Up until yesterday he was still here.
-He still is but neither I nor you can reach him now.
-How is that possible?
-He met Roxanne yesterday. Last time I saw them they were heading for her house. I won't go near that woman in order to ''cleanse'' my sin. Better kill me now and do it yourself. After all I've finished my training with him. It is in his hands now if he can survive or not.
-Are you lying to me?
-No! Paul is at Roxanne's. If you dare go, give him the justice you want.
-I am not afraid of this shadowy bitch! You should know that.
-I know and it would be a nice fight to watch, though I am pretty sure about the final outcome and I am far too young to be a widow!
-If you are lying to me I will find you and kill you Nansy!
-Well either let me go and go hunt Roxanne or kill me right now. Threatening me has become boring.
-One day you and I will cross our swords, I promise you that. And I will defeat you in a fair fight to prove to my creator you were a failure of hers. Until then, my dear wife!
-I will be waiting for that day, my dear husband! said Nansy walking away fast.
Later that night Narssel was spying Roxanne's house. That young abomination, Paul, was there. Nansy hadn't lied and for some reason, that, made him happy. He respected sincere people.
He knew it would be crazy to just jump inside that house and kill the youngling. Even if he managed that, it wasn't sure he would survive Roxanne's wrath. After all it was her house and lair and that in vampiric terms was sacred ground for a vampire.
But even if he managed to escape her she would report the incident to the Prince and while he was valuable to him, Narssel knew that the woman's voice would earn more support in the Prince's court.
-You will take one wrong turn youngling and I will be there, waiting for it. Enjoy your new friends while you still walk this Earth.
By saying that he sliced his left arm, letting quite some blood flow...
His traditions required that when a warrior went out seeking war, either his own or his enemy's blood should be spilt.
-There, I bled for you youngling, but next time the blood will be yours!
He had spent his last nights praying his mentor would give him wise advice.
